As a teen this book was my escape. I would pour over the images and imagine a time when I would flee my toxic environment and explore these crumbling, haunted places. The dark, ethereal photography continues to capture my imagination and to appeal to my obsession with the supernatural.
This is a collection of photographs with accompanying text describing some of the haunted places in Britain and Ireland - ruined castles brooding on remote crags, the windswept shells of decaying mansions, the sadly gaunt remains of priories and abbeys. Simon Marsden has photographed castles, houses, archaeological sites and other buildings, and relates the history of each place and its ghosts alongside the photographs. Marsden's work is in many prestigious collections, such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Getty Museum in California.
